Three Duos and a Half
s the title, the compilation Three Duos And A Half includes three duos (Fat City, Soviet Pop, Deadly Cradle Death) and a solo project (Zhang Shouwang from Carsick Cars/White+), from the Beijing intown experimental music scene. This C-60 tape reveals the unconventional side of these representative underground noise groups in Beijing, though their main directions are more in song-based, from noise rock to weird synth balled. The tape contains four 15-mins around noise/drone pieces: Fat City sounds like a feedback test by using microphone kicking percussions; oscillator scientists Soviet Pop take their machine to the edge of out of control and made a lump of space sound; Zhang Shouwang did a loud, fuzz synth drone, brilliant as his guitar works; and Deadly Cradle Death make a noise psychedelic hip-hop improvisation, sounds like their performance but in a super length. All tracks were recorded in the winter of 2011-2012, practice room lo-fi works but full of sound details.
